Sweatin' To the Oldies

Yes, Way...I bought "Sweatin' to the Oldies" on VHS at the thrift store last week. I haven't gotten to do it yet, but I can't wait. I am a nerd.

But anyway, this post is to talk about exercise. I don't HATE it. I just seem to get tired super fast. Right now we're trying to walk at least 30-45 min a day (except when we have the kids visiting, because the walk we go on involves walking in the street for part of it.)

Also doing: Wii Fit (30 minutes) but spread out through the day while I'm working on the computer.

Wii Just Dance (I can do about 3 songs in a row, then I have to wait at least 10 min and have some water before I go on)

(And a Question for people who know what they are doing about exercise -I've had many people tell me that doing 5-10 min at a time, then stopping is useless and pointless because I'm not keeping my heart rate up for long enough???)

Sweatin' to the oldies (not sure how I will do with that yet)

Walking

Tennis (I've promised my Godson D that at least 1 day a week after Schools out that I will pick him up and take him to play Tennis. I can do it for about 45 minutes. )

I've slightly toyed with the thought of joining a gym, but...I hate it. and it's not the exercise I hated. It was the people. It was the skinny, buff snotty assholes who would laugh at my fat butt trying to get on the exercise bike. I also can't afford it (We would have to get memberships for both my hubby and I, because no way I'm going alone.) sigh. I'm just so super klutzy that the thought of doing any exercise classes gives me a panic attack - I can't take the snickering and people laughing at me for falling down or tripping. I don't have anyone to go with either (whine, whine) - all of my friends have tiny kids and no time.

Sigh. So exercising with Richard Simmons at home it is!

  1. Hi Lala

I can only tell you that exercise has changed my life. I never sweat a day in my life prior to June 2008. I highly recommend getting a trainer and not just whoever.. But one you connect with. I have had 2 both who were huge parts of my life. I hated the gym and have not been under 250 either. Actually I'm getting the band because I stopped gaining and just stayed the same... 4 years in June still 260.

Please check out my blog.... There 3 April posts about my workout group, spinning my passion and a really great strength training one.

    You can love Exercize too

  2. Shhh.. I bought sweatin' to the oldies late last year. :-) I used to do the videos with my mom way back in the day when they first came out. I have been a member of two gyms.... One was full of skanky skinny judgey people... Lol the other, the Y, was way more family friendly and a lot more "normal" people trying to better themselves. Shop around and see which one works best for you.

I had a friend who was banded in 2010. She felt uncomfortable going into the gym, and started by just walking laps around the outside of the gym, before working up the courage / confidence to go in. Just find what works for you!

  3. I can only recommend the Y!! Mine is full of all kinds of people. There are very few "muscle heads" and "skinny bitches"...mostly people like me and old farts getting their sweat on. I like the environment and I trust the staff. But a gym isn't the only way. I think if I just used the gym I would get bored, but it is a nice fall back with weather sucks or I need weights/equipment to do what I need to do. You are making great changes, keep up the good work!!!

  4. The YMCA has financial aid help as well. It's income based and really helps with the costs of the membership. As soon as I am cleared by the doctor, our family will be joining the West YMCA (hopefully) and I plan on going. I love the fact that my oldest and me can work out while Kasi is at kid watch and then the girls can swim while I work on homework. I plan to incorporate it into our days during the summer. I am also looking forward to their zumba classes once I am feeling better about myself. Right now, I am just walking a few times a day. Not able to do much yet. I am planning on using the WII throughout the day as well and have several workout dvds to use as well that way the gym doesn't get boring.
